Have you ever taken a cold shower? Well imagine that cold shower and you are some way to understanding the sensation you feel from plunging yourself into icy cold water.
From the time of the ancient Greeks cold water has been much revered and throughout the ages it has often been used in healing practices.
Today winter swimming is both an adrenaline sport and a lifestyle choice. The winter water appeals to a broad age range and even attracts expectant mothers. In Winter Swimming, director Jack Bright meets some of the characters from a winter swimming club and finds out more about the human body’s ability to withstand one of the harshest of elements – cold water! He comes across various characters including Tomas and Tania who prove that the power of ice cold water is the power of life itself.
Shot during one of the strongest winters for many years, with an abundance of ice, snow and freezing temperatures, the film features beautiful cinematography from the award-winning Jan Mika (Junior).
Swimmers can be seen together with skiers and the great power that mother nature wields in the form of cold water is captured through the experiences of the swimmers including a wedding in cold water.
